excel gripes

1. Some excel files open in such a way that the top of the worksheet is
behind the menu bar. So it is impossible to drag the sheet or to click
the green button to resize it.

2. It seems impossible to stop the PDF toolbar from popping up every
time I open excel, even though it takes up a whole new line and pushes
the worksheet down too low.

Colin,

1. This should (mostly) go away after you deal with the PDF toolbar.
When it does not,
Window > Arrange... > (any choice)
should do the trick
If you still have to do it often, you could assign a command keystroke
to do it.
