Excel Hungapp Windows XP

I'm using Windows XP Professional. Each time I open an excel workbook,
regardless of size, the system hangs and I need to manually end task in order
to shut down. Help?

Excel 2000?

Seearch for a file called *.xlb (Search in hidden files and folders), delete
it and then restart Excel. Excel's toolbar customisation file in Excel 2K
can often get bloated and cause instability of the sort you mention.
