Excel hyperlinks - how to disable warning messages?

Larry

Hi,
I'm getting the following warning message each time I click on a hyperlink
in excel, 'This workbook contains links to other data sources...' etc etc.
Does anyone know of a way to stop/preven tthis from happening? All data is
from trusted source.
Thanks,
Larry

You know it's a trusted source, but unfortunately Excel (2004?) _doesn't_
:)

In Excel> Preferences> Security you can remove the check that triggers the
warning, BUT: I am not recommending that you do. It leaves you open &
vulnerable to anything that comes along from *other* sources which you may
not realize to be harmful. There's very little risk to the OS or to Office,
but you could wind up contaminating all of your Excel files & passing the
booger on to your PC-wielding associates.

Resurrecting an old thread here, but this didn't work for me. The only
active toggle-able option I saw in the Security pane was "Warn before
opening a files that contains macros." Disabling this, appropriately
enough, turned off the warning message I got when opening a file
containing macros. However, I still get the "Would you like to open
this file" warning when I click on a hyperlink pointing to a file on
my hard drive.

This is a bit of a pain, because I am attempting to port of VBA macros
to AppleScript in advance of the Office 2008 release. Previously, I'd
triggered the macros via form buttons. Since I can't trigger the
AppleScripts the same way, I thought hyperlinks might be the way to
go. Getting this warning whenever I run a script is rather annoying,
as you might imagine.

Of course, somebody could tell me that 2008 will offer a way to easily
trigger scripts from the UI and I can just delay rolling out the
updates spreadsheet until getting the next version of the software.

Nobody who knows can tell you, but I would be floored if XL2008 did not
have its own applescript menu for which you can define keyboard
shortcuts.

Even if it doesn't you can use the system Applescript menu.

I obviously wasn't expecting anybody to break an NDA, but like you
said, it seems like a natural extension. I thought maybe something was
mentioned during one of the public discussions of the upcoming
software and I just missed it.

Yeah, but it would be a step backwards for supporting the people using
the spreadsheet. Big buttons with descriptive labels make things
obvious.

Never mind - it just dawned on me that for Excel 2004 I can use the
MacScript command to call my AppleScripts instead of using hyperlinks
while I'm porting the script and just wait to see what 2008 offers in
terms of functionality. Thanks.
