Excel icon doesn't work.

My Excel icon in the taskbar no longer seems to work. I can doubleclik on any excel file and it loads just fine. However, when I try to click the icon in the taskbar or in the menu, excel loads about halfway, then hangs up. I tried to reload the icon but that didn't work, either. Any ideas to solve this issue?
