This may seem like a trivial question, but how in the world do I insert a row into Excel in MAC???

The same way you do it in windows. Highlight the row below where you'd like
the new row, then choose Insert-Rows. If you tried this and have problems,
explain in more detail what is happening/not happening.

Are there no keyboard shortcuts for adding and deleting rows and columns?

how about toggling between an absolute and relative reference (i.e. $A$9, $A9, A*9, A9)?

These are both actions I use very often and find it tedious to use the menus...

Hi Tom -

Those commands do not have default keyboard shortcuts assigned to them but
you can easily create your own if you really need to. However, there is a
keystroke (Control+I) to Insert Cells which actually produces the Insert
dialog box offering Shift Cells Right/Down, Entire Column & Entire Row.

Although the menus may be tedious, there's one or two you might want to
exercise a little: Help> Excel Help> "Keyboard Shortcuts" as well as Tools>
Customize Keyboard... :)
