Excel line charts won't plot properly

Oz Springs

Hello

I am having problems with Excel line graphs. For example I have data
of 277 rows and two columns. The highest value is 179 but in the
created chart the scale shows the highest at under 140. Also the lines
are smoothed out but still vaguely the right shape. I have not
switched line smoothing on.

This occurs with Office 2004 and also with Office X and 1998. I have
checked the charts with Chartsmith and the little Illustrator graphing
app. and they scale OK and each line has the appropriate ups and
downs.

I guess I have a problem with corrupt Excel preferences, but I can't
find the ones which are affected. I have removed the Excel plist from
Library/preferences but I still have the problem. Where else can I
look for preferences or other files which would be causing this
problem on my Mac.

I haven't checked with other style graphs. I have to produce 48 graphs
per month, but fortunately these are done, finally, in Illustrator,
but I prefer to have an Excel chart for cross-checking the data.

I am using OS 10.3.5 but the problems were also occurring in OS10.3.4.

Thanks for any help

Does this happen with a chart in any other workbook?

I can't reproduce this in any version of XL, and given that you're
seeing it in XL98 and XLv.X, too, it's almost certainly not a preference
problem.

Have you checked what individual points display as (e.g., if point 50 in
your data is 179, what does the popup display when you hover the mouse
over point 50)?

I'd be glad to take a look at it if you'd like to send it to me (please
send it stuffed or zipped from the address above so that it gets through
my filters).
