excel lists lookup feature

Is it possible in an excel list, to bring up names starting up with a certain
character, if I enter that character so as to easily select what I am looking
for? Example if I am looking for a name starting with k and I have a list
that has over 400 names, I would like to see the names starting with K so I
can look more easily for the name I want among them.

How have you built the list? As cell validation? With a forms control on a
worksheet? With a forms control on a form? What are you expecting to see in
a cell, and what do you expect the user to do?

Hello Carmen - If we had any idea which version of Excel you're using on
which operating system we would be able to be more specific, but yes, it's
definitely "possible".

CyberTaz,
Thanks for responding. I am using office 2003 so my excel is 2003
professional. I would be glad to know how to do this.

I created a list by validation. I use the list for vlookup. The list is long
and a user has to scroll all the way looking for the word to chose of if they
know the word, they easily type it so long as they type it exactly as it is
on the list. I was hoping there would be a way whereby when they type the
first letter, then the words starting with that lettey show up and then they
choose the right word from what they see or rather then they have a shorter
distance to scroll looking for the word. I am using excel 2003.

Although this is a Macintosh forum, I think you'll find that if they key the
first few letters, and then press the down arrow on the drop down, the
correct portion of the list will be displayed.
