Excel Locking

Hi~ We are running Windows XP and office 2000. I have been seeing an increasing numbers with excel freezing while it is trying to open. The person will see the top of the excel screen and maybe the bottom of it too, but the middle (the spreadsheet area) never actually loads. In task manager, it will not show excel as an application running but as a process running. We have to end the process to close excel and try it again. Anyone else having this issue?
