Excel locks up when I sort by name

I have 430 objects in a folder, about 50 are excel files. If I open Excel the
go to file and open from there, excel will lock up. This is an issue with all
of my users.

It sounds like the file|open dialog is getting a workout with all those files.

Maybe if you reorganized your files into subfolders, it would take less
time/work.

Just curious...

When you do a file|open, do you see details/preview/list/...?

If one of these takes a long time (or locks up), then maybe you can change to a
different view before you go to that folder.

We store a lot of our files on a network share at work. I try to keep the
number of files in each folder small--the slowness of the (remote) share and
lots of files is frustrating.
