Excel Mac vs. PC - can't open HTML files

Ernest Lehmann

I see that I can edit HTML files and convert them to spreadsheets
using my Office XP version, but not do the same thing with Mac Office
2004.

What gives?

Try it: using MAC 2004 Excel, try saving the following URL as an HTML
file and opening it in Excel to convert it to a spreadsheet...

http://www.umd.nycpic.com/2004fee_capped_rental.html

It will work using the PC version, but not the Mac version.

The PC version is apparently better at reading malformed HTML.

This line has an extra quote mark (after "right"):

<TD VALIGN="TOP" align="right""><font face="arial, helvetica"
size="1">RR</FONT></TD>

if you remove the quote mark XL04 opens the file just fine...
