Excel Memory Capacity

Can anyone tell me if there is a built in memory capacity
in Excel? I find that when Excel exceeds 100 MB of open
workbooks (in one or multiple workbooks) an error message
comes up that "Excel cannot perform the operation with
given resources." My system resources are clearly not the
issue though as I have more than enough room in RAM and on
the video card to handle that sort of data. Hence I am
wondering if the problem is built in.

Excel imposes its own memory limitations, regardless of how much RAM and
