Excel Models Crash All Formatting Lost

For some reason our guys here keep having their Excel models crash (go to
not responding without returning). Then when the models are re-opened they
have lost all formatting (hours and hours of work)! Anyone know why this
might be happening? Sometimes the spreadsheets claim they are corrupted
upon re-opening and other times they do not.
