I have Excel (Office XP) installed on my machine. I opened
a new spreadsheet and typed the following values in cells
A1 through A6:
-25
3.99
6.71
6.59
6.54
1.17
In cell A&, I have the following formula: =SUM(A1:A6)
However, the value that is displayed is not 0. Instead
cell A7 shows 2.66454E-15 While this is close, it is not
correct.
Please note that those are the values as typed. It is not
the case that those are rounded values truncated to two
digits after the decimal point.
Can someone explain why Excel does not add this column of
numbers correctly?
