Excel not working with os10.2.8

There are 8 mac computers in an office environment, they were all
running macos10.2.6. The macs share Word and Excel files over the
network. One of the machines was upgraded (not planned) to
macos10.2.8. Ever since the upgrade, last Friday (3 Oct) the machine
with the 10.2.8 os will not allow the sharing of its Excel files - and
indicates the error ' no permission to write to this file' or something
similar. The Word files are ok still and can be shared between all, the
machines still on 10.2.6 are fine sharing all their Excel files.

First thought was that 10.2.8 would be the culprit - if it was, then why
are Word files not affected, hence my suspicion is that it has something
to do with Excel rather than macos 10.2.8.

Anyone who can shed light on this? Any input would be appreciated.

George.

ps I have downloaded the Microsoft Office upgrades and they are
current to 10.1.5

With OS X, permissions can be a recurring issue. With Office apps
closed, try repairing them (you should run this after every
update/application install anyway as a precaution):

Run the Disk Utility (in the ./Applications/Utilities
folder). From the First Aid tab, click "Repair Disk Permissions".
