Excel object no show in WinWord

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

I made a document in MacWord and included an Excel object.
At first I tried to include a linked object but that was impossible although I used x-versions of both.
Then I made an unlinked Excel object. But by opening it in WinWord it disappeared leaving an empty frame.
What went wrong?

I'm afraid I have no idea what you mean by your second sentence...

What made linking impossible? How did you attempt to create the link what
specifically happened? And what do you mean by "x-versions"?

How did you make the "unlinked" object? There are a number of possibilities
and we need to know what you did to suggest why it didn't work. It could be
something as simple as a setting in the WinWord app.

By x-versions I meant Office 2008/2007 versions. There could be problems if I tried to embed an Excel 2004 into a Word 2008 document, but I did not. I tried to embed with a link to an Excel 2008 file but the embedding crashed, Excel closed down and I filed the crash report.
Then I copied part of the Excel document and choose paste special and Excel Object which rendered the whole Excel sheet into Word. But even on my Mac it did not show today before I had clicked twice on it and opened and closed the Excel sheet. Perhaps I should have done the same in Windows but I did not.
As I said the document opened but instead of rendering the Excel sheet I got an empty frame.

Have you applied the Office 12.0.1 Update? If not start there, then run Disk
Utility - Repair Disk Permissions & restart your Mac. That update should
have corrected the "crash on paste link" issue & I don't find it to be
problem here. [However, I'm still running OS X 10.5.0, so if the issue
persists in 10.5.2 I don't know.]

As far as the empty frame, that is possibly attributable to one of several
separate issues. On the Mac - One is that Word> Preferences> General the box
is unchecked for Update Automatic Links on Open. It's also possible that it
is an OS X 10.5.2 graphics conflict issue.

On the PC or the Mac, it can depend on whether the embedded object is set as
In Line with Text. If it is Picture Placeholders Image Placeholders on Mac)
must be unchecked. If Text Wrapping is applied the document must be
displayed in one of the appropriate viewing modes that supports images -
such as Print/Page Layout View.

BTW - Linking/embedding files of previous versions should make no
difference.

No, pasting the Excel object with links to an Excel document does not work. I use 12.0.1 and 10.5.2 and I tried running Repair Permissions and restarting. The result is the same: Excel crashes and I get the opportunity to report the crash which I did.

As far as I know, linking does not work, anywhere in Office 2008, at the
moment due to a bug.

There's a Service Pack due out soon. In the meantime, use
Insert>Object>From File...

That should work cross-platform.

Cheers
