Excel Office 2003 Update KB918419

I am unable to install MS's Update KB918419 on my Dell 8400 XP computer. I
cannot re-download as it tells me I already have it. I've sent many error
reports to MS on this. But I still cannot install it sucessfully. Any ideas
why, and what I do now?

We found we had to close Outlook to install this on our Dell's. They all
seemed to fail and as soon as all office products were closed, it worked.

I did not have any MS Office 2003 products running (that I know of, or that I
can see in my task bar) when I attempted to install KB918419. The
installation still fails. Any other ideas, anyone? By the way, this was one
of eight updates that I was installing. All the others installed fine on a
one-at-a-time basis.
And - I do not understand the terminology used for telling why this update
cures a security threat in MS Excel. Could anyone put this 'security threat'
explanation in more layman-ish English?

Hi,

I am also facing the same issue and tried all the methods posted. Nothing
has worked! This includes reinstalling Office, disabling AV and spysweeper,
as well as the editing the registry entry and OSE.exe. I cannot seem to find
a proper resolution to this problem. It seems to work for some machines and
not for others. Are there prerequisites to the update patches? Are there
mandatory windows patches for this install to work? I've tried every possible
combination possible. I need help.
