Excel Opens then closes PERSONAL.xls

Why does this happen? I have re-loaded my Office XP & re-got SP1 & SP2 +
Repaired it but although it will open another file in the same folder it
must open then close the PERSONAL one?! Please help as I am stumped, thank
you.

Can you describe this more?

Most people keep their personal.xls file in the XLStart folder so it'll load
whenever they start excel. Are you saving your other file in that same
location?

I would guess that your personal.xls file has some macros in it. What happens
in the auto_open or workbook_open routines?

And finally, are you sure it actually opens, then closes? Maybe it's not
opening at all. Excel2002 has the abililty to quarantine what it thinks are bad
workbooks--it keeps track of them so that it doesn't even try to open them.

If you look under Help|About MS Excel, you'll see a button called: "Disabled
Items...".

Check under there to see if it's marked not to open. You can enable it there,
too. But if there is something wrong with it, you might end up copying your
backup into XLStart.

You were right Dave, it was disabled! As I have created a new personal and
enabled it, hopefully it won't happen again. Thank you Dave.
