Excel Running SLOWLY

R

Rick

I have bought Office 2001:Mac and am running it on G3 using system 9.2

Excel seams to run incredibly slowly compared to how it runs on a PC, even
changing sheets or going to page set-up has a delay of about 20 seconds!!

does anyone know what I've done wrong - or is there a preference setting I
should have altered

Thanks
Rick

First, make sure you've applied the appropriate updaters at

Mactopia Downloads:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

Then allocate additional memory:

With XL closed, click on the application icon and choose File/Get
Info/Memory.

Leave the "minimum" setting as is. Change the "preferred" setting to
at least 3 times the default amount - I found 30MB was pretty good
for me unless the workbook sizes started approching 10MB.

Make sure Virtual Memory is on in the Memory control panel.

Page Setup is dependent on your printer driver, so make sure that's
updated, too.

Hello,

I too have very slow calculations with Excel Office X. I've got the latest
updates I'm sure (how would one know?) but it still takes several minutes to
calculate a large sheet. It does have 45000 rows and about 15 columns so
maybe it would be expected, but ten minutes???

OSX with a gig of ram and 1gig Hz processor.

Am I expecting too much?

Unless you're doing an incredible amount of iterative processing, 10
minutes is excessive, especially for only 675,000 cells. Are most of
them complex formulae?

You might have it by now

I found that simply recopying the formulas down the 45,000 rows decreased the
calculation time from 20 minutes to 2-3 seconds!

What can this mean?

Your workbook was heavily corrupted? It's hard to know exactly
without seeing it

Glad it's working better!

I sent it to Jim Gordon who sent it on to MS, I think. Haven't heard from
anyone yet.
