Excel Running Wild

A spreadsheet that I use regularly has suddenly run wild. As soon as I open
Excel a blank spreadsheet comes up and starts running down the columns. I
can't get it to stop and nothing on the tool bar works. I've rebooted but
when I open Excel the same thing happens, the columns just keep increasing,
trying to run as high as it can. Norton Anti-Virus doesn't find anything
wrong on the PC. It looks like something is wrong with the opening template
but how do you stop it?

It turned out to be that the roller wheel on the mouse was stuck.
Thanks for your responses.
