I was looking for an answer to why while inserting subtotals, Excel was
recalculating all the spreadsheet per subtotal inserted which to me makes no
sense. I sadly found this "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 839951"
indicating that this happens due to a "...design change from earlier versions
of Microsoft Excel". I cannot figure out who came with such idea but it has
been the one of the worst changes you could have ever made to this
application. Havint to switch to Manual in order to avoid wasting precious
time recalculating is not exactly an improvement. But not only that, I
installed yesterday the SP1 for Excel 2003 and now, when I insert nested
subtotals, the last nested subtotal appears below the outer subtotal,
creating a real mess. Frankly, this is something that needs an urgent
revision by the development team of Excel 2003 since it seems we are going
backward. Improvements should mean easiness of use, adding efficiency to the
application and not creating new problems to your users.
