excel shuts down

I have office XP and for some reason when i am in a cell and press the up
arrow on my keyboard it either fills the cell withat a backslash or a \gh
and then my computer immediatly goes into hibernation or whatever. I have
norton and have run it and found nothing? anybody know whats up?
