Excel speed

Can anyone tell me why the mac version is slower than the windows one?

I have a MacBook Air 1.6 GHz with 2 gb RAM.

I do a lot of work in excel because of my jobs and from time to time i'm to create large spreadheets -and at the office i work with a basic Dell latitude that's farther less performant than my mac...

So, why's that the same spreadsheets run faster in windows than in mac?
Thanks for the information you might give me

So, why's that the same spreadsheets run faster in windows than in mac?

The main reason, I believe, is that WinXL's calculation routines have
been optimized to take advantage of low-level OS routines, while the
MacXL's have not.

To be fair, it's probably easier for WinXL developers to do so when (A)
they work at the same company as the developers of the OS, and (B) when
there are probably as many people working on the WinXL team as work at
all of the Mac Business Unit (MacBU).

THat's a possible explanation, not an excuse. However, each revision and
conversion in code base that MacXL undergoes seems to pick up some speed
in *some* routines.

But don't hold your breath for the same performance in the forseeable
future.
