"Excel Stopped Working" Message

Often, when I close (exit from) Excel, as well as Visio and, I think, also
Word, I get a message that the program has stopped working and is restarting.
The program does open itself and I have to exit again. How do I fix this
problem. My operating system is Vista business edition.
