Excel Template Download generates errors in Excel.exe and closes .

When attempting to download excel templates from the microsoft site, I get
the following windows error message, titled "Program Error": "EXCEL.exe has
gnerated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the
program. An error log is being created."

I've downloaded clips and other things from the site, but never a
template...any suggestions on what might be the problem and the fix?
