Excel v.X: document windows disappear when application was un-hidden

Hi there,

Prerequisites: Mac OS X 10.3.7, Office v.X 10.1.6.

When I have a few Excel documents open and then hide application, say,
for a 10+ minutes, it doesn't display any document at all after I switch
back to Excel. Window menu lists all the documents that were open but
windows are absent. The only way to close application is force-quitting
it. I would appreciate any insights on what's going on and how can I get
rid of this.

TIA.

I never saw this when I was using XLv.X regularly, and haven't seen it
in my occasional use since... However, I have had it happen once with
XL04, as well as with other, non-Office apps - perhaps once a month or
less.

Couple of questions, shooting in the dark:

Are any other Office Apps running when this happens?

Have you tried quitting the Finder when this happens?

Are you using any haxies (OSX system extensions)?

Does it happen with any workbooks open, or does it only happen when a
particular workbook is open?

With XL hidden, what happens when you click and hold on the Dock's XL
Icon and choose one of the windows to activate?

Does it happen reliably after 10+ minutes, or does it depend on what
other apps are running?

Yes, I have FruitMenu, WindowShade and LabelsX.

With any workbook.

Did not try, will investigate this technique. Usually, I switch between
apps through Command-Tab shortcut, and very rarely use Dock.

I did not see any dependency yet, but I always have open iChat,
Thunderbird and something else, so did not tested Excel as the only one
except Finder.

Thanks a lot, I have read your tips yesterday but no result yet. Will
investigate the issue to have more statistics.

I'll move the discussion to the corresponding newsgroup.
