Excel VBA or Pivot Table

I have an excel spreadsheet that needs to get certain info from a SQL DB. I
have toyed with the idea of using a pivot table to get the info into the
spreadsheet. What is the benefits of not using a pivot table and displaying
the data using VBA via ADO?
