Excel Wkbooks with many sheets

I have some files with nearly 200 sheets - about 2.5 Mb.
They open in a fraction of a second from my hard drive,
and take 20 seconds to save. PLEASE NOTE this problem does
NOT occur if I create similar size file with few sheets in
it. I have seen the standard solutions to slow saving and
tried them, but I don't think they apply anyway because it
is only files with large numbers of worksheets which are a
problem.

Any helpful comments would be appreciated. Many thanks.

I don't think there is much you can do here because Excel goes throug
the process of
1. updating the temporary file,
2. deleting the original .xls file,
3. re-saving the temporary file as .xls, and
4. deleting the temp file

#3 & #4 should be replaced with:
#3 Rename the temporary file to the original's name.
