Excel word and powerpoint start up slowly office 2003

Word, Excel and Powerpoint start up slowly, over 1 minute. I have uninstalled
and delete all associated files under C:\program files\Microsoft Office and
all user templates and associates files under the user profile. After doing
that then office is reinstalled. The problem continues. I notice when excel
is starting up I see "Running Virus Scan..." in the status bar. When I use
Winword.exe /a switch it starts quicker (startup as I would have expected).
My configuration is as follows:

Compace Presario 1.46 GHz Laptop
512 MB RAM shared (504MB available to me)
Windows XP SP2
Office Student Teacher editon (latest Updates)
Windows Live Oncare (I suspect this might be the problem, Note the staus
information above).

After word eventually loads and load the document, without even altering, if
I close word it prompts me if I want to save changes to the document. I
usually choose no.

Outlook by default uses WORD as editor. composing an email also takes a long
time as outlook tries to start Word as email editor. The evenlog has the
following message:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Microsoft Office 11
Event Category: None
Event ID: 2001
Date: 7/24/2006
Time: 9:46:01 PM
User: N/A
Computer: myOne
Description:
Rejected Safe Mode action : Microsoft Office Word.

Looking forward to any help I can get for this problem

I am not using any Norton or Symantec products. Windows Onecare with Windows
Defender installed. Is there an equivalent pugin for windows defender and the
new antivirus product from Microsoft?

As before using the /a switch to load excel without add ins starts the
program with ease. Startup regularly without any switches still takes
forever. after the program finally starts no addins registered in
Tools>>Addins. No disables items in Help>>About Microsoft Excel>>Disabled
Items.

Word still having problesms

Was some version of Norton Antivirus ever installed on the
computer? If yes, then search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on the
hard drive (be sure to include system and hidden files/folders in
the search options). If you find it, note the folder where it is
located, and use the "regsvr32 /u" method described in KB329820
to unregister the DLL.
