Excel/Word application wants installation cd

I've read various posts on this subject and haven't found a posted
solution yet. Each time I open Excel/Word, I get the windows installer
prompt, of course it then asks for the installation cd for Office 2000
SR-1 which I don't have. I have the registry key and expect that I
should be able to run some sort of diagnostic to fix it as long as it's
a legal copy which it is. The other PCs here are running 2003 and have
individual licenses otherwise I'd just upgrade, however this computer
is fine and I'm not trying to be out another few hundred bucks. So,
what is the solution on this topic? Excel and Word both run fine once
I click cancel at the prompts three times, but it's a pain and I can't
ever close Excel otherwise I have to go through this each time.

I can't install any updates or patches because of this same issue, like
the other post recently about trying to get updates online, clicking
the prompt saying I don't have the cd then getting the installation
aborted because I don't have the cd after it starts the installation.

Is this just an 'upgrade or quit whining' situation?

If the MS Installer finds an indication that something is 'broken' or miswired in your Office 2000 installation it will ask for the
original Office product installation source (CD or network point).

One method to test for that is to try to run 'detect & repair' from the Word help menu or Repair/Reinstall from the Microsoft Office
2000 choice in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel, but don't if you don't have the CD as it will ask for that right
off.
