Excel Workbook last saved by Microsoft Corporation

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this. I have a user that came in
Monday morning to find one of her most used and important spreadsheets to be
completely empty. The file still existed, but all cells were empty as if it
were a new spreadsheet. File properties, statistics showed "Last saved by:
Microsoft Corporation" which is unexpected. I should state the user who last
saved it. Can anyone think of how this could have happened, even in theory?
