Excel worksheet 2007

Every time I work in the excel spreadsheet I have prolonged periods of wait
while the program is creating the spreadsheet. Why is this and what can I do
to fix it? It takes forever to create or edit the simpliest form..

Just a silly wild guess...

Maybe you have lots and lots and lots of calculations and each time you make a
change, excel wants to recalculate those formulas.

Maybe turning calculation to manual will help.
Office button|excel options will get you part of the way)
