Excel X Vanishing Scroll Bars

Sometimes when I flip between Excel X and another application (e.g.,
Word, Safari, etc.) and return to Excel, the scroll bars are missing
from the spreadsheet. I have to close and re-open the spreadsheet to
get the scroll bars back. The behavior appears random. Does anyone
know how to fix this? I'm running Mac OS 10.4.1.
