Excel XP (2002) Autofilter

Chuck

I have an Excel spreadsheet that I am using the Autofilter option. Sometimes
when I click on the drop down arrow and select a field the drop down arrow
turns blue and then I can not click on any of the drop down arrows to choose
another filter. The original drop down arrow stays blue and prevents me from
being able to use the autofilter again. I have to save and exit and reopen
the document again.

Hi,
if you have a lot of formulas in the spreadsheet try to set calculation
to manual.(Tools>Options>Calculation tab
Check 'Manual' ). Is it just one document specific issue or other
ducument with autofilter behave in the same way? However, you posted to
Macintosh section, you might get better answer in Excel for Windows group.

Hi Chuck -

Although this is a Mac Excel group the feature is virtually identical on
both Mac & PC. In the future though you might want to access a Win Excel
group via:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx

In the meantime, one key point is whether this is happening with *any*
workbook or just this particular one. If this one only there may be a
corrupt file issue.

Try copying the data range (with field names), pasting to a *new* sheet in a
*new* workbook file & see if the AutoFilter works OK there. How may rows
(records) are there? Don't use the Edit>Move or Copy feature as that may
copy the corruption as well.

I know AutoFilter gets a little flaky beyond a certain number of rows, but
can't remember what it is - have never experienced it myself, I do anything
with that much data in a database app. How many records are there?

BTW - The blue arrow is as it should be - that's to indicate the field(s)
the AF is currently imposing criteria on. Along the same lines the row
numbers of the displayed records will also display in blue.
