EXCEL XP: can't open an excel file

Evdoxia

Dear all,

Could you please help me with my Excel XP problem?

I can' open an excel file unless I go to the
Excel>File>Open.

That is, if I have saved an excel file in my Desktop or
elsewhere I am not able to open it.

I've already read the solution to this problem for Excel
2000 and tried to modify my registry but unfortunately I
can't find the keys indicated and that's because 2000 and
XP are different.
Please let me know if you happen to know anything.
Thank you very much in advance.
regards,
Evdoxia

Maybe one of these will help.

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

An alternative might be to do:
Try Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
