Excel XP saving .xls as system files

D

Dean

We are getting increasing number of machines starting to save all .xls files
as hidden system files with no option of undoing the change. The only way to
recover the file is to copy the entire contents to a blank document on a
clean machine and save it again delete the original and rename the copy. All
the affected machines are running Office XP with SP3 and all up to date
patches, and Windows XP again with all uptodate SP and hotfixes.

I cannot find anyone else having a similar problem. The files are being
saved to a SnapServer file storage server.

To clarify, are you saying if you view the file Properties outside the
application (right-click file and select Properties) the Hidden and
System attributes are selected?

Have you scanned your system recently (full scan - I don't mean
auto-scan) with a good anti-virus program that is uptodate? Just in
case a virus has crept in somehow! Who knows there might also be a
spyware!
