I have just installed Office 2004 on my new mini mac and when using
excel, I don't have the same ability I have with a pc to access the
drop down menus with the keyboard. I would like to know if the Mac
program has the same ability to hit the alt key and then follow the
letters to select options from the drop down menu such as alt + o + c +
w to change column widths. I use this ability at work on a pc all day
and would like to be able to use the same short cuts at home with out
having to touch the mouse.

You won't be able to use the same shortcuts.

MacXL allows you to assign keyboard shortcut(s) to nearly every command,
while WinXL doesn't.

MacOS allows something similar to Windows using Universal Navigation.
Make sure the option is turned on in System Preferences/Keyboard and
Mouse/Keyboard Shortcuts. Type CTRL-F1 to turn navigation on. Type
CTRL-F2 to select the menu bar. Type the first letter of the menu item
name (repeat if there is more than one item starting with the same
letter) and type Return. The dropdown will then open. Type the first
letter or letters of the command.
