I have two problems. The first is that i can hardly see the highlighted cell in a spreadsheet. Is there any way to make it appear more prominently?

Second item, I use a spreadsheet monthly. It is the same except for dates and content entries. I seem to have to delete or clear the contents one cell at a time, unlike Excel in windows which lets you highlight a range of cells and delete all the contents with one key stroke. Can't this be done in Excel for Mac?

Try highlighting the group of cells and typing < Delete> and then
<CTRL><ENTER> .

Another method, which takes a little work, is to go into the
SystemPreferences -- or whatever Leopard calls it now -- select
Keyboard, then Shortcuts, and you can create custom keyboard commands
just for Excel.

The highlight color is set in System Preferences. In the Appearances
pane, set your preferred color (choose Other to get more choices).

If XL is open, close and restart it to see the change.

Highlight your range, and type Ctrl-b.

If you have an extended keyboard, the second delete key (the one that is positioned next to the "end" key will delete a highlighted range.

And on a condensed keyboard (such as a laptop[) fn+Delete will get the job
done... But why are we catering to the hijacking of a thread that's nearly a
year old in the first place?
