We are running Excel97 on a win2000 terminal server.
One of the partners was working on an Excel file this
morning when while typing it dissapeared he hadn't saved
in quite a while), Excel was still open however his file
just closed for no apparent reason.
A few hours later, the same partner was working on a
completely different file. He had received this excel file
from a client, had worked on it (was saving very regularly
this time), when again suddenly the file disappeared. This
time when he tried to reopen the file it claimed "the file
was already in use", so I shut down all other excel
documents he had open, the tried to close the Excel
application, and was prompted with the "Save
Changes..Cancel" prompt for the file that had disappeared.
It was not on the screen, it was not in the 'windows' menu
file list, it was quite strange.
At this point we said "yes", closed Excel, reopened Excel
then attempted to reopen the file. When we clicked open
for the file, nothing appeared on the screen. We tried
this a number of times but the same thing.
At this point I returned to my computer and tried to open
this file but was prompted with "Richard Lindley is using
this file, do you want to open as a read-only document/be
notified etc" prompt.
As you can imagine the partner is ranting and raving and I
am wanting to find an answer.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
