excel97 : opening on server and closing does not release file for editing

Vera SEYMONS

Can someone help me out with the following :

We get complaints from users (winnt and w2k pc's) that
when the open an excel file for editing and then close the
file again (but not the excel application) the file
remains locked for other users who want to open the same
file.

This problem appears only for users who have office97 on
their pc. Users having office 2000 don't have this
problem file lock is release immediately.

Does someone know this fenomenae and how can it be solved ?

Thanks in advance and kind regards,
