Excell 2003 scatter chart with text in x range

Working with a simple xy scatter chart, used over a number of years with
updated data, and discovered the curve plotted did not pass through a (0,0)
origin, although the initial x and y points were 0,0. Finally noticed a
larger range speified than that which contained data, and the final cell for
the specified x range contained a text comment. After deleting this label,
the curve shifted back to the origin. Has anyone encountered this before?
It is easily corrected, but the presence of the erroneous plot is not easily
identified.

As far as I know, it has always been the case, in any version of Excel, that
if any value in the X range of an XY (Scatter) chart is text, then the chart
reverts to essentially a Line chart, treating the X values as 0,1,2,3,...

Excel 2003 is a Windows version of Excel, and you have posted in the Mac
Excel newsgroup.

For chart-related questions and comments for either Mac Excel or Windows
Excel, you could use microsoft.public.excel.charting.
