Excell and Windows Explorer

When a user tries to open and Office XP ( Excel ) file by
browsing to it through windows explorer and double clicks
on the file, the file hangs for about 2 minutes and then
it will open. But if the user opens Exel first and uses
excel to browse to the file it opens with not problem.

Any Ideas on what the problem could be.

The user has a Windows XP Pro SP1. Dell Laptop.
