Excess Number of Adobe PDF tool bar's

S

Stanley Williams

Some time back I had a hard drive failure. Most of my data was backed up.
However, now when I start up Word X I have 15 Adobe PDF tool bar window's
instead of just one. In Excel I just have 1. Other than closing each PDF
window manually how can I just have one?
Thanks,
Stanley Williams

I hate to answer my own email, but in case anyone eslse ever has a problem
like this... I just did a search for pdf on my disk and I found that in
statup/word I have a set of PDFMaker-1.dot thru PDFMaker-14.dot files. I
removed them, restarted Word & only have one PDF window show up. I left
PDFMader.dot in the startup folder.

Hello Stanley,

There are some grounds for thinking that *one* PDF toolbar is too may,
because of various problems associated with it (I have personal experience
of one). This article by Mac Word MVP JE McGimpsey will probably interest
you:

I agree with you about its removal.

However; since Acrobat 7.0.6 and up (now .0.8)
and OSX.4.6 and 7 it actually does work. What it will do now is call up
the printer utility switch to the Adobe Print Driver the a windows
looking rectangular shaped Progress bar show up when you get to end you
have to option of quiting (the operation which saves the file) or view.
(which quits the operation and open Reader or Acrobat).

I still recommend removing it. AS with Mac you can Print using the adobe
PDF Driver which create a PDF or through the Pdf command in the print
window.

The only annoyance is that you have to dismiss the printer Utility each
time as it will not work with it previously open (my experience).
Allow me to extend your answer :)

Delete the remaining one also... :)

On the Mac, the damned thing does nothing other than cause trouble. On the
PC, it still causes problems, but at least there it's slightly useful...

We recommend on the Mac that you take it out from Word, as it serves no
purpose (other than to crash things...)

Cheers
