excess spaces

I'm having a problem finding the 'remove excess spaces' button. My
office has just updated their network, etc., and we're now running Word
on a new Mac-based system. This is great and all, but I'm finding it
irritating without the trusty excess spaces button. Does it still
exist, and if so, where do I find it? I've looked EVERYWHERE and it's
starting to drive me mad! Can anyone help??

AFAIK Word has never offered a "remove excess spaces" button - although one
may have slipped past me in the last 20 years:). I'm also uncertain as to
how one could work generically, as Word would have no idea what constitutes
an "excess" space as opposed to a "necessary" space.

It seems more likely that someone created a macro in your previous program
(perhaps an earlier version of Word?) and assigned that macro to a custom
toolbar button. Recreating it should be simple enough, but again it depends
on what you are defining as "excess spaces".

In the meantime you may be able to accomplish the equivalent by using
Edit>Replace. If you simply want to change 2 consecutive spaces to 1, press
the spacebar twice in the Find What field, once in the Replace With field.
Should your definition of "excess spaces" be different or more comprehensive
you'll need to supply more detail.

Bob is correct. Microsoft Word does not have a "remove excess spaces"
Button, on either PC or Mac.

It does have a "Spaces between sentences" option in the Grammar settings.

In the Grammar Settings dialog box (in Word menu, Preferences, Spelling and
Grammar command).

See the Word Help topic "Grammar and writing style options" for more.

Cheers
