Exchange Not Connected

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I upgraded from an older MacBook Pro to the newest version recently. Entourage worked on my old system but not on this new one. I am no longer able to use Exchange with Entourage.

I thought it possibly was a keychain error so I deleted all the files related to Exchange. I do not get any prompts of any sort. The send and receive button is grayed out, Entourage says - Exchange (not connected), and I just get Schedule: "Send & Receive All: will run in 1 minute. No error messages.

I am thinking perhaps there is no connection at all. Or perhaps Entourage is not even trying to connect. Could this be a problem on the server side? What do I need to ask my IT administrators?

The first thing to check is that you have the right version of Office 2008.
Home and Student Edition does NOT include Exchange support. You need at
least Standard Edition.

Hope this helps.

Ed I triple checked.

I am using the Standard Version of Office 2008.

Any other suggestions?

I double checked I don't have any program blocking it. Doesn't work even with Little Snitch Filtering Off.

Perhaps also if you could suggest a checklist of things to look into on the server side as well. And suggestions for isolating the cause of this problem?

Good, make sure it's up to date (that you have applied the 12.1.5
update).

Little Snitch shouldn't be a problem. I use it myself and it's just fine
(as long as you've authorized Entourage in LS of course)/
Actually it could help here. You could use the Network activity pane to
check that Entourage at least attempts to connect, but it could go too
fast so you can try this:
Enable LS, edit the rules to find Entourage. Remove Entourage from the
list. Quit Entourage and relaunch it. You should get a warning asking
you to authorize the application in LS,

Make sure you can connect through OWA.
Copy the path to the OWA server and use it as the server address in the
settings in Entourage (with the http:// etc).
