Exchange outlook web access 2003 - open .doc file

I am able to access my e-mail from my employer through the internet via
Microsoft office, Outlook Web Access, Microsoft exchange server 2003.
I am able to use either my IE 7 or Firefox browser software successfully.
Using IE, reading e-mails with attached WORD .doc files, the .doc file will
not open when I click the open button. I only receive a blank screen.
I have to download the .doc file to my desktop and read by opening it from
there.
I use MS Office Professional 2003 on my desktop.
Excel .xls files will open using the open button.
When I use Firefox I can open the .doc files using the open button just fine.
I prefer using IE 7 and I would like to be able to open the .doc files from
within the IE 7 browser and not download it first.
Is there a setting or add-in that I can adjust or change or check from my
desktop IE 7 browser set-up to allow this? Or is this a function on my job’s
server side?

So I guess there is no answer for this?
Have I stumped everyone with my dilema?

Not an Office question - ask in an IE group or an Exchange group.
