Exchange Solution on a Mac

We've been waiting forever for the next release of Entourage with
support for our Exchange servers, and we all know that when it finally
comes it's going to have more bugs than a dead water buffalo! I for
one, am not holding my breathe in expectation that, for once,
Microsoft might deliver a half decent product for the Mac.

Apple gave MS the big corporate finger with Safari and I think they
may be about to do it again. The new release of Panther (build 7B21)
has support for Exchange in the Mail app and address book sync with
OWA contacts. Early days but it's heading in the right direction.
I'm told that iCal will have some kind of support for exchange too.

The Mac mail app is much more elegant than Entourage ever will be and
I know it's going to be more reliable. I'm going to dump my Outlook
and entourage ASAP

Microsoft dislikes competition, hence the MAPI "standard" that is the
basis of exchange is as it is. I have no illusions anymore but instead
of thinking of switching to a PC where exchange would work far better
I and many like me (system administrators and IT-conslutants) are
working far harder than we shoudl to get rid of exchange systems. I
still need it for the shared calendar (between Mac, PC's and *nix
machine running thirdparty exchange connectors) but closed formats
that hamper the user will be the death of some products sooner or
later... or at least so I hope. The lack of information from Micrsoft
and or the lack of information that turns out to be true is an added
irritation. This has been a prolific group for years and it is not
until the ultimate twilightdays of OS 9 that a OS X version is even on
the horizon. My cynic side tells me this is due to MS believing they
can push users away from using Macs in a corporate environment. Why
not say conduct a public beta for all the annoyed and disillusioned
users that voice their concerns here? Why has nothing been said (not
that I have looked that hard admittedly) about public folders access
for Entourage X with exchange support?

My last best hope for humanity lies in opengroupware.org getting well
made OS X and Windows clients so I can chuck our notoriously messy
Exchange server out of the window.

Qualit of OS X software from Microsoft has been poor to say the least.
How about word being a sodding carbon application but NOT supporting
OS 9, why use carbon. How come the char limit in a file name is 31
when OS 9 handled 32 and OS X 255. It is just objectively shoddily
done.

Hell I don't use word for word files even anymore, interoperability is
important but Micrsoft is loosing out on quality and does not seem to
understand that. Or they don't give a shit megalomania can do that to
a company.
