exchange support broken?

This is going to be painful, I can tell. I was able to connect to my
exchange account in Office X. Something doesn't work in Office X 2004
- I get an error that my name/password isn't recognized.

The settings are all correct... our support guys here are Windows
only, and they don't know anything about the Exchange server other
than pointing to a settings file...

Anyone else encounter new problems with exchange?

Entourage X relied on IMAP for mail whereas Entourage 2004 entirely relies on
OWA. That can lead to some confusion and the OWA server can actually be
differnet than the IMAP server on a LAN.

WebDAV, actually. An Exchange server can support OWA but not WebDAV.

In such cases, adding the account as IMAP rather than Exchange should work.

Yeah, you're right... I haven't yet seen an Exchange 2000 or 2003 server
supporting OWA but not WebDAV, and since people usually know wether OWA is
supported but have no idea what WebDAV is, I developed the nasty habit of
using one term instead of the other.

In such cases, adding the account as IMAP rather than Exchange should work.

Absolutely.

Thanks for all the information... I'll have to troubleshoot this in
the morning. Our IT department won't even look at a Mac so I had to
figure this out on my own... and they all have a settings file they
use to configure new machines, so it's impossible to verify the
settings. I was able to set up Entourage X based on webmail (domain
and server).

Today I did manage to find another Mac in a different department
running the old classic Outlook, but I couldn't find any settings in
that program that would have helped, either.

Thanks again...

You can setup 2004 exactly the same way only using the webmail server address
as the Excahnge server address. Be sure to enable SSL for instance if ever
webmail goes through https.
