Exchange support in Entourage 2008

Email Client: Exchange

Does Entourage 2008 have support for server side rules and/or quotas in MS Server 2003 and 2008? Our users are limited to 100mb email boxes but some have upwards of 2GB because Mac Mail and Entourage 2004 don't look for server side rules or quotas. This is a huge issue as it slows down all Exchange users across the entire company. I'm not looking for Apple to support it as I'm sure it will never happen - so my pleading goes out to MS to support their own products on different platforms. Thanks!

I'll let the Exchange folks answer your specific questions, but you can use
this script to move messages to the folders "On My Computer".

AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 (time can be adjusted) days from your Exchange
account folders to archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

Entourage does not support server-side rules except for Out of Office.

As for quotas, those are enforced by the server if they are set. You'll
probably be notified via E-mail if you're over quota. You can
right-click (or Control-click) your Exchange account or any of its
folders in the folder list and select Folder Properties --> Storage to
view your folder sizes. This works in Entourage 2004 and 2008.

Hope this helps!

I found out one of my users has Entourage 2008 installed. After sending some large files back and forth to get the mailbox over quota it did indeed stop her from sending emails (like it should). So it appears Entourage 2008 does indeed support server side quota restrictions. Hope that helps some one out in the future.

Technically, Entourage can't do what the server won't allow it to do. If
the server refuses mail because an account is over quota then any E-mail
client, not just Entourage, will not be able to send.

Bill I wish that were true. Using MS Server 2003 Entourage v.X and 2004 as well as Mail (in Tiger and Leopard) don't support any sort of quotas or anything. We have a 100mb limit and our mac users are inexplicably allowed to go way over that. With Entourage 2008 it shuts them down immediately. Getting info on the account with Mail it says "Capacity: n/a" and "This account does not support quotas."

When I go over quota I am prevented from sending mail, although received
mail keeps coming in.

Really? Using MS Server 2003? Because Mail specifically says that the account doesn't support quotas even though it is set to do so. It administers the PC users just fine, but not the Mac users.

I've never heard of an E-mail client that could override server
settings. Where are you seeing information in Entourage that says the
account doesn't support quotas? That doesn't make sense to me.

Hey Bill I've taken a picture and posted it so you can see what I'm
seeing. This is a screen shot of the get info screen in Mail on
Leopard.

Hi Matt!

That tells me that Mail.app doesn't support quota warnings to users,
such as when they are approaching their quota limit. That's not an
indication that Mail can override server quota settings.
