Exclusive Access to Database Message

Hi,

I have a shared database on our network. The database has a "STARTUP FORM"
that opens automatically when the databasee is opened. Database users are
now seeing a message that says "You do not have exclusive access to the
database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able
to save them later". This appears even though the form is set to allow
design changes in Design-mode only. Default Open mode is set to shared. No
one should have that form open in Design view. If I open Access first, then
browse to database, I do not get this message. If I browse using Explorer
and open by double-clicking file (where Access first opens then opens
database), this is when message appears. Any clues to what is causing this?

Hi Luke,

I'm pretty sure the default open mode affects databases open on your
machine, so you will need to set the default open mode to shared on each
user's machine.

Thanks for the response Damian. That isn't the problem in this case though.
If I first open Access, then browse to the file, it opens file with no error.
If I don't have Access open, and brose using Explorer then double-click to
launch the file, that is where there error occurs. So it's almost as if when
I launch from Explorer, Access tries to open Exclusively and that's why I am
getting the error. But I can't figure out if there is a setting somewhere to
change on this....

No worries... I guess the obvious solution (and what you should generally
have in a multi-user system) is to have the back end and front end separated,
giving each user their own copy of teh front end (on their local PC) that
links to the back end tables on your server. This is both better in terms of
speed and security, and also should alleviate your error message.

Damian.
