Exel shutting down

This is the message I am getting. "Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to shutdown. The information you were working on might be lost. MS Excel can try to recover it for you.

This happens when I am trying to save my file, which has several formula's and several pages to it.

What is happening and how can it be fixed.
